Tavern Biscuit

Virginia has many old English recipes which have been cherished along with her other traditions.

Sift together

  • 4 cups flour
  • 1/2 tsp. nutmeg
  • 1 cup butter
  • 11/2 cups milk
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1/2 tsp. mace

Blend the butter and flour together until the mixture is mealy. Gradually add the milk and knead into a smooth dough. Roll thin and cut into small round shapes. Bake at 450° F. until light brown.
